Cruden Bay

Welcome to Cruden Medical Group

Our well-established Practice serves around 3800 patients, mostly in the Cruden Bay and Hatton areas but spreading 9 miles to Peterhead, Ellon and inland to the Mintlaw area. We have a fully equipped branch surgery at Cruden Bay.

With patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.

The Covid-19 Pandemic is a national crisis, and has led to significant changes in the way we are able to look after you.  We have made a number of changes to try and reduce the risk to you. We need your support to implement them and would like you to consider the following:
Every single person is at risk of carrying this virus before showing any symptoms.  To protect you we are minimising all face-to-face patient contact.  In line with NHS Grampian advice please visit NHS Inform or telephone 111 if you are concerned you are unwell with symptoms that could be Covid-19.
We will be contacting our high risk patients to ask for information about your general wellbeing and about the help that you may receive from friends, family or carers. We are also ensuring we have the correct contact details for your next of kin.
We want you to think about your care if you were to become unwell - would you prefer to be kept comfortable at home, or be admitted to hospital?
We used to do this in a face to face conversation in a calm, non-time pressured way. As a matter of urgency we now need to ensure that the information we have about you is up to date.
We will not abandon you or your loved ones and will endeavour to support everybody to the best of our abilities. We do need to be frank about the realistic outcome if you are unwell enough to need hospital level care from Covid19 infection.  If you have significant health problems already, then it is sadly highly unlikely that being admitted to hospital to be ventilated would save your life. Doing CPR (attempting to restart your heart if it were to stop) is even less likely to be successful. Carrying out CPR places both your family and our staff at significantly greater risk of catching the infection from you.
If you do not want hospital treatment or CPR it is imperative that we know in advance to enable us to respect your wishes.
It is our intention to phone as many of our higher risk patients in the coming days so that we are aware of your preferences should the need arise. It would be helpful for you to consider this in advance and perhaps discuss it with your families. We hope in these unprecedented circumstances, you can understand the need to alter the way in which we normally ask these difficult questions. If you want to let us know before we contact you please telephone the surgery or email us at....
Thank you for your consideration and may you keep safe and well.

Information for at risk patients

Given the emerging Coronovirus situation Cruden Medical Group has take proactive steps to minimise the risks to our  patients and staff.

We will be utilising telephone and video consultations to assess and advise the majority of patients. We ask that you DO NOT attend the GP surgery unless you have been specifically instructed to do so by a clinician. If you require an appointment please contact the surgery by telephone.

All patients with pre-booked appointments will be contacted in advance of their appointment to discuss alternative arrangements for their appointment. Please DO NOT  attend the surgery.

If you have been advised to attend by a clinician please do not be alarmed if they are wearing personal protective equipment. To minimise person to person contact your assessment may performed in your car. If you develop new symptoms consistent with Cornovirus infection please telephone  the surgery for further advice prior to attending.

Unless you specifically need a carer please attend the surgery alone.

Given the anticipated demand on the healthcare services over the next few weeks we are reducing our non-urgent and private services.  We request that you collect prescriptions from your nominated pharmacy to reduce footfall within the practice. Please indicate which pharmacy you would like your prescription to go to when placing your order.

As per current government instruction if you develop a fever and / or a new continuous cough stay at home for 7 days from the start of your symptoms even if they are mild. At present GP practices have no ability to test for Coronovirus. Information about most medical conditions including Coronovirus can be found online at NHS inform at

Many of us will likely only experience mild symptoms however it is absolutely vital that we do all we can to protect the most vulnerable people in our community. We are aware that this is a very difficult time and appreciate your patience and understanding as this situation evolves.
